Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has been the Federal Minister of Defence since 17 July 2019. Until 2018, she was the Prime Minister of the Saarland. Prior to this, she headed various ministries there. Kramp-Karrenbauer studied law and political science in Trier and Saarbrücken.

Career of the Minister of Defence

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has been the Federal Minister of Defence since 17 June 2019. She was born on 9 August 1962 in Völklingen (Saarland). She is married and has three children.

1981: Entry into the CDU, membership in the Women´s Union

1982: A-levels at the Marie-Luise-Kaschnitz Gymnasium in Völklingen

1982 – 1990: Study of law and political science in Trier and Saarbrücken

1991 – 1998: Referent for Principles and Planning of the CDU in Saar

1998: Member of the German Parliament

1999 – 2000: Parliamentary Manager of the CDU State Parliament Fraction in the Saarland

1999 – 2012: Regional Chairwoman of the Women´s Union in Saar

1999 – 2018: Member of the Saarland State Parliament

2000 – 2004: Minister for Home Affairs and Sport in Saarland

Since 2003: Federal Deputy Chairwoman of the Women´s Union

2003 – 2011: Deputy Regional Chairperson of the CDU in Saar

2004 – 2007: Minister for Home Affairs, Family, Women and Sport in Saarland

2007 – 2009: Minister for Education, Family, Women and Culture in Saarland

2009 – 2011: Minister of Labour, Family, Prevention, Social Affairs and Sport in Saarland

Since 2010: Member of the Presidium of the CDU Germany
